Victoria, the capital of Seychelles, is often described as one of the world’s smallest capitals, yet it brims with color and character. Located on Mahé Island, the city is both a cultural hub and a gateway to the surrounding beaches and mountains. Despite its compact size, Victoria offers a lively atmosphere where tradition and modern island life blend seamlessly.

One of the city’s most recognizable landmarks is the silver clock tower, built in 1903 and modeled after London’s Little Ben near Victoria Station. Victoria is also home to the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens, where visitors can stroll among giant Aldabra tortoises, exotic palms, and vibrant orchids. The nearby Natural History Museum adds depth to the experience, highlighting the islands’ biodiversity and the importance of conservation. For those looking to take in the city’s spiritual side, the colorful Hindu temple of Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar stands as a symbol of the islands’ multicultural heritage.

Though small in size, Victoria provides a rich introduction to Seychelles. It is a place where colonial-era buildings sit alongside lively streets, and where a simple walk can reveal layers of history, culture, and the natural beauty that defines the islands.
